COLONOSCOPY? Check!

I have been long overdue for my first colonoscopy.  My brave husband had his in January and inspired me to have mine.  Megan has been nagging both of us for a few years that we needed to have this procedure.  She does them often in her residency and she is always sad when colon cancer is found and it could have been discovered early and treated successfully, if the patient had had a colonoscopy sooner.  So I started the prep yesterday afternoon, which is drinking Fleet Phospho soda.   YUCKY!  Drink it with 7-up. Then you down 32 ounces of water.  You do this twice in four hours and then take 4 laxative pills before bed.   Yes, you do spend time in the bathroom, but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be.  We went to the hospital early this morning and honestly, I don't remember anything after the doctor put a little Versed in my IV until I woke up in recovery and in five minutes we were on our way out the door.  I don't remember the doctor telling me everything was clear and that I don't have to have another one for TEN years, or my husband sitting in his scrubs with me after his surgery, or even sweet Jocelyn sitting with me the entire time in recovery.  So....how can I complain?  I hope anyone who reads this who is frightened of a colonoscopy will rethink the procedure and be braver than I was.  IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE!  Thanks John, Megan, and my cousin Rod for helping me be brave too.

I know this topic isn't a laughing matter--but I just found it so funny reading...great blog entry. Thanks for the tips for all those who are nervous to have this procedure done!
